INTRODUCTION

The nexus between Islamic fundamentalists and communists was not of recent origin. In 1940's the communists extended their fullest support to the diabolical campaign of Muslim league to divide the country. They have even boasted that they were able to plead the case of Pakistan " better than was done from the league platform itself". When the Muslim league had resorted to direct action in August 1946 and incited communal carnage, the CPI launched 'unity programme' to express its solidarity with Jinnah. The People's war, official organ of the CPI, elaborating writes: " special attention was given to rouse the minority communities. The meetings in Muslim localities were very succesful. Their appreciation was was unconcealed. 'Khoob Khoob Bahut teek' came spontaneously from their lips in answer to the earnest appeal made by our agitators".
Even after partition, the axis remained intact despite the naked pro-pakistan stance of Muslim fundamentalists. Communist 'theoriticians' never tried to invent new myths to glorify and defend Muslim fundamentalism. Communist leader EMS 'theorized' that minority communalism poses no threat to the country.
